It was broadcast for five seasons beginning in 1995 and ending in 2000. The series follows a group of travelers as they use a wormhole to "slide" between different parallel universes.
Wild Things starter Aaron Ledbetter (1-0) picked up the opening day win against the Sliders, striking out five on five hits in six scoreless innings of work. With the win, Ledbetter tied a Frontier League record with 29 career wins.
Through four innings the score was knotted at zero because of solid pitching from both teams. The Wild Things opened the scoring in the bottom of the fifth when second baseman Kyle Werman came through with the bases juiced by driving in two runs with a single to right field.
The Sliders threatened Ledbetter in the sixth with a rally of their own by loading the bases on three straight singles to start the inning. Ledbetter was resilient, however, by striking out the next two batters and getting first baseman Jason Von Behren to ground out to end the inning with three Sliders dvd boxset players left on base.
The Sliders inched closer in the eighth with a RBI triple by Nate Yoho to score Jarrod Klausman, who was traded by the Wild Things to the Sliders over the weekend, to make it a one run ballgame.
Jarod Rine added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth with a sharp RBI single past shortstop Jon Hickey to plate Chris Sidick for a 3-1 advantage. Outfielder Matt Sutton than scored from third on a throwing error by Sliders catcher Travis Chapman on Rine's second stolen base of the game to round out the scoring for the Wild Things.
The Wild Things will host the Sliders Thursday for the second and final game of their opening two-game series at CONSOL Energy Park at 7:05 p.m.
Steelers placekicker Jeff Reed will also be on hand Thursday night with the Coca-Cola Great Hall. The Coca-Cola Great Hall also features a prize wheel which will give the fans an opportunity to win Steelers-related merchandise.
